The RCTi-Earth Leakage Sensors (RCTi-EL) are used to detect when current is leaking to ground.  Two RCTi solutions are available; a single coil encircling all conductors or 3 separate coils (where summation takes place in the signal conditioner)

To NEC 230-95(c) Earth Leakage sensing applications usually rely on one Core Balance en-circling the phases and neutral.   If no Earth Leakage is present, perfect cancellation takes place within the core balance current transformer.   Often it is physically impossible to fit one current transformer around all conductors, often cables are spread out or the space is confined - the RCTi-EL provide a quick and easy solution to this.

 The RCTi-EL sensors convert ac current to an isolated 0-5V voltage, 4-20mA current loop.  Optional 1A outputs ensure compatibility with existing CT metering circuits.   The available RCT ranges are 0-25A to 0-50,000Apk.  The RCTi provide accurate detection with a wide variety of waveshapes ensuring accurate representation of the earth leakage current.

The RCTi-EL  sensor can provide all popular process control voltage and current loop outputs along with custom output options.   The RCTi-EL range are split core sensors which means that connection is possible without shutting down an operating feeder or incomer.   Typical applications are power distribution in large shops, offices and factories, where KVA power levels are high.  For all RCTi-EL models, a NIST/NPL (UKAS) traceable calibration certificate and certificate of conformance is supplied.   All RCT sensors use UL or CSA approved materials.

The RCTi-EL, RCTi-3ph-EL and RCTrms-EL are ideal for retrofit replacement for medium/large current, split core current transformers operating with transducers.  Excellent performance at power frequencies 1Hz to 1MHz, also ideal for VFD drives and induction heating.  The RCTi-EL and RCTrms current sensor/transducers are suited to permanent or semi permanent installation. The coil sensor is durable, thin, lightweight, flexible and will easily clip-around the conductor. The output from the transducer can be ac voltage (RCTi, RCTi-3ph) or a true rms output (RCTrms).  Typically the RCTi is used with data loggers, oscilloscopes, data acquisition cards, power analyzers, harmonic analysis and in power quality applications.  The RCTrms is used in process control Scada Systems and industrial power applications, where a dc output represents the rms ac current.

TA5V-5A and TA5V-1A output modules
Used for interfacing RCTi and IRF current probes to existing 1A or 5A metering circuits.  The TA converts the RCTi/IRF voltage output to 0-1A or 0-5A signal.  Unlike conventional CTs, there are no open circuit hazards, these are ideal with installs in confined spaces.  The RCT/TA5V-5A combination simplifies installation and eliminates the need for expensive plant LV/HV shutdown.
